my goal as a professor is to prepare students academically and professionally to be successful in their chosen field. communication is a critical skill, no matter what career students decide to pursue. while students are familiar with today’s digital media, i also want them to understand the demands of the business, how to communicate professionally and how to develop those skills as fully as possible. exposing my students to professional events, such as career fairs and job shadowing, is an important component of the educational process.
in the end, i want to provide my students with a meaningful and rewarding education, so they can successfully transition from the classroom to the workforce in a seamless fashion. anything less is unacceptable to me.
i also have a desire to be a lifelong learner, as i am quite involved in programming provided by the center for teaching excellence as well as working on a variety of certifications in my chosen field. in addition, i have embarked on a new journey and have enrolled in the communications media and instructional technology ph.d. program at the indiana university of pennsylvania.
paul miller started his professional journey at wrsk radio in slippery rock, pa., as an on-air personality and baseball color commentator. in 2003, he made the jump to the butler county radio network in butler, pa., where he worked in the newsroom, on-air and in promotions.
upon starting his master's program in 2005, he began working with a company called solutions for advertising and held a number of positions, including sales associate and social media editor.
during that time, he immersed himself in social media, a new form of communication that would revolutionize the world. from that point forward, he began consulting small businesses in the harrisburg region, working with dozens of businesses in helping them develop a plan for their content on social. he continues consulting with businesses through a local company.
in 2013, he began teaching part-time at central penn college and became a full-time faculty member in 2016. since then, he was promoted to program coordinator of the communication department, and has been awarded faculty member of the quarter and club advisor of the year.
in addition, he is the faculty advisor to the knightly news media club, the student news organization on campus. he has hosted, produced and edited every episode of the knightly news podcast, which will reach its 100th episode this year. under miller’s guidance, the media club produces a quarterly publication featuring the best recent articles from the group’s blog. “in 2018, the club started streaming central penn knights basketball, baseball and soccer games,” says miller. “it’s a great experience for everyone involved––the club, the athletes and coaches and the school.”
